King Charles, who addressed the nation on Friday afternoon as monarch for the first time,will be proclaimed Kingat the Accession Council on Saturday at St. James’s Palace, an event which will be televised for the first time.
The Queen’s eldest son immediatelyascended to the role of monarchupon her death, becoming King Charles III. Camilla will also now be styled as Queen Consort, an honorQueen Elizabethdirectly expressed her wishesfor in February.

On Thursday, Buckingham Palace announced thatQueen Elizabethdied at age 96 at her beloved Balmoral Castle.
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” officialssaid in a statement. “The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
King Charles was further referred to as “His Majesty, the King” on letterhead from Buckingham Palace, inhis first statementas monarch following the death of his mother.
“The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family,” he said.
