Cate Blanchett ’s Hela is one of the highlights of Thor : Ragnarok — but apparently , the character could ’ve had quite a different entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe , because Hela was primitively being study for the 2nd Thor film .
Speaking to / Filmahead of Ragnarok ’s U.S. launching tomorrow , Kevin Feige break that at first , Hela was going to be the scoundrel for the god of Thunder ’s ultimately middling sophomore movie :
Blue sky ideas always start on this film with Hela . We want to make Hela the baddie . Hela was almost the villain in Thor 2 . It did n’t happen for various reasons . And thank God it did n’t because now we have Cate Blanchett and Taika doing it .

The Dark World got Christopher Eccleston in instead , for a sober turn as Malekith , the sinister leader of the Dark Elves in the strip . But valet , I recollect it ’s secure to say that if Hela had been introduced in Dark World or else , it would ’ve been a very different , and credibly very grimmer , take on the character .
gratefully it turned out for the best , because it ’s hard to envisage a more stark bit of cast for Ragnarok than Blanchett . But when you go to see the movie , spare a thought for the alternative Earth out there that stimulate a Thor movie where Cate Blanchett was n’t vamping it up and have a heavyweight of a time as the Asgardian Goddess of Death .
