Grogu & the Dust Bunniesis a Cute, Innocent Collaboration Between Lucasfilm and Studio Ghibli

That short , Zen – Grogu & the Dust Bunnies , release on Disney+ this morning in jubilation of the streaming service ’s three - year anniversary . Everything you involve to sleep together about it is right there in the title : the breakout star of Star Wars ’ flagship serial The Mandalorian is thinly menaced by some dust bunnies before eventually making squeamish with them . There ’s no tease for the series’upcoming third season , no mighty showcase of Grogu ’s Force baron or anything of that form . It ’s in truth a short guy hang out with some other little guy .

While some will sure be disappointed hearing that , Grogu is still worth watch out . Longtime Ghibli director and animator Katsuya Kondō ( whose resume includes Kiki ’s Delivery Service and Princess Mononoke ) brings the character ’s childlike naturalness across incredibly well . The niggling green guy cable feel like a swell fit for animation , and Kondō succeed in making him even precious with a deal - drawn vivification style . plunk for by a trancelike scotch from Ludwig Göransson , which feels like it ’s pulling on the theme for Nickelodeon ’s Rugrats , it feels like something that would be made by a child that ’s a devotee of Grogu .

It ’s possible ( very potential , even ) that Ghibli has been lend on by Lucasfilm to do something Star Wars - related more substantial in the future tense and this is just a test streak . Until then , Grogu & the Dust Bunnies is harmless fun andworth the Saturday watch .
