read about the controversy about Game of Thrones casting an actor that does not exactly match some people ’s expectation of that character ’s race , I was of a sudden strike by the question of whether there has ever been a version of Superman who was black ? I mean , did n’t we have Heimdall from the Thor franchise play by a black individual and did n’t some people seriously lose their shit over it ? How much shit would be lost if Superman were ever a person of color ?
To answer your first question , yes and no . Yes , we have had a black Superman , in the sentiency that we have Steel , who was one of the four Superman running around after Superman choke . He has a lot of the same powers and fall apart the S and is part of the Supes family , although he ’s had tar to do in the New 52 . But of course that ’s not Superman , per se .
Grant Morrison introduced a ton of “ Supermen of the Muliverse ” in Final Crisis , including Calvin Ellis , the fateful Superman of Earth-23 ( that ’s him above ) . Whether you want to count him or not , he is decidedly the one and only Superman of that creation , wears the traditional Superman rig , and oh , he ’s the Chief Executive , too . He shows up later in Morrison ’s Action Comics # 9 , so he was n’t just a one - off character reference , although lord know if anyone besides Morrison will ever mention the fictional character again .
the great unwashed did n’t lose their shit over this , but he ’s fundamentally an Elseworlds character that ’s had less than 10 pages of side clip . So say DC commence releasing a monthly comic about the escapade of this Superman . I think it would get a lot of military press , and there ’d be a few crazy racists decrying — something — but for the most part I do n’t think people would care .
Would casting a black serviceman as Superman in a motion-picture show cause people to lose their shit ? Absolutely . There ’s a lot of ground for this , first and foremost because movies and TV shows are boundlessly higher visibility than comics ; secondly , you ca n’t get the public to translate what an “ Elseworlds ” tale is . Instead of hearing “ This is a blackened Superman , ” all they ’d hear is “ Superman in now black . ” So in the main people would see it as changing the fiber , not adding to the mythos , and that ’s how people get scandalized , I infer .
search , Marc Bernadin read this better and more eloquently than I ever will in his awesome“The Last matter Spider - Man Should Be Is Another White Guy ” essay ( on this very situation , I might add ! ) , but changing a persona ’s race almost never matter . Sometimes — sometimes — it might jar with a character ’s origination , but as Bernadin points out , sinlessness is not an essential part of Spider - Man ’s character at all . Nor is it Superman ’s , for that matter . Or Batman , or any of the ten - Men , or Iron Man . Now , Captain America , part of his mickle is that he was Hitler ’s blonde - hirsute , blue - eyed Aryan saint and still hated everything Hitler endure for , so changing his race does alter one aspect of the fictitious character . While some people might find that individual view central to Cap , others do n’t .
The last thing Spider - Man should be is another blank guy
Honestly , sometimes I think a wash change might make things more interesting , specially in respect to the Spider - Man reboot . I ’m genuinely sorry Donald Glover was n’t cast as Spider - Man , because he would have been perfect . And since Amazing Spider - Man barely deviate from the path of the first movie , some variety of change like this would have in spades made the flick more interesting to me .
I understand why dweeb who ’ve waited their intact lives to see their preferred heroes on screen want it to be as accurate to their ideal version of the characters as possible , but they — and everybody — should realize that airstream is n’t a part of that , or at least it should n’t be . I think we ’ll get there finally , and everybody and everything will be near for it .

I ’ve never really liked Doctor Who . Is there something wrong with me ?

No , I ’m kidding . Doctor Who is definitely an acquired taste perception . It ’s a kin TV show , which we do n’t generally have in America any longer — a show that ’s speculate to attract to adults and kids simultaneously , which makes it too “ kiddie ” for many older witness . It ’s also one of those show whose strength is its continuity , meaning the more you cognize the show and the more you ’ve see , the more you ’ll enjoy it and its infinite Easter Eggs . It ’s not a phantasy , but it ’s also the softest hard scifi show on boob tube . So it require some investiture before you become a fan , no matter what .
Also , as much as I love Steven Moffat ’s oeuvre , there ’s something about his Dr. Who that ’s leaving me cold . I ’m not sure what it is , I just know I never really appear frontward to fresh Who episodes any longer . I guess you ’re not really omit out on much at the moment , is what I ’m saying .

I have a mates quick questions I have yearn to see answers for , and I am hoping you could clear some things up …
1 ) Lord of the Rings : Why does n’t Sauron plow inconspicuous when he was assume the One Ring ? Would n’t he have thought that was awesome and cool ?
2 ) Star warfare : How does the Death Star travel across the beetleweed ? Or maybe more importantly , why not just dart Yavin instead of waiting 30 minutes to revolve it , so there was a fair shot at its lunation ? Most probably the demolition of Yavin would have gotten the lunar month as well .
1 ) The One Ring does n’t make people disappear as much as it sends people to the Unseen human race — basically another plane of existence over top regular Middle Earth . masses like Bilbo , Frodo and Sam — steady people — just pop over , render them efficaciously invisible to multitude on the physical land . However ! Sauron is a Maia , a look that lives primarily in the unobserved universe , whose forcible body is a construct he made . Because he already live in the Unseen public , set on the ring does n’t post him over , because he ’s already there , so to speak . Also , Tom Bombadil , who is some variety of nature god or spirit or forcible manifestation of the lifelike world or something , commit on the ring and does n’t plow inconspicuous either .
2 ) It has a hyperdrive ( actually , a bunch of hyperdrives ) that allows it to spoil great distance , and unconstipated ion engine for travel within a wandering system . As for why it did n’t keep go and bourgeon Yavin IV , I assume it was because the Death Star had to deviate the energy from its hypermatter reactor to power up the primary laser . And as for why it did n’t demolish Yavin itself , it ’s because there ’s no notification if the damage from the exploding planet would manage to dispatch the moonlight , and then the sombreness would be endure and Yavin IV would wing god bang where and the Death Star would have to chamfer it while the optical maser powered up again and Tarkin and Vader and the Emperor would all be pissed and it was just easier to wait 20 instant and sprout the damn thing itself .

assume , Star Trek is set in the future of a existence that could be ours , what ’s the deal with Khan ’s timeline . So , if Khan was in suspended animation for 300 yr , and the events surrounding his revival take position around 2260 or so , should n’t that mean he and his genetically advanced compatriots have already carried out his nefarious crimes ? Do the filmmakers except us to not guess about this , or forget it happened ? Or is something else happening ? Or is Star Date not really based on our calendar reckoning system ?
Stardate is base on our calendar , alas , so you ’re right . Into Darkness is lay out in 2259 . And the movie specifically tell that Khan was a genetically engineered soldier who fought in the Eugenics Wars of the 1990s , so either the movie maker expect us not to call back about this outlandishness or not wish .
Now , on the plus side , this discrepancy is kinda neat because it dead equalise the beginning of the original Trek universe ’s Khan , whom Kirk first met in the Star Trek episode “ Space Seed . ” On the other hand , that installment was made in 1967 , and it ’s presently 2013 where we all get it on the 1990s came and went without any Eugenics Wars , also make it topnotch , super dumb .
Honestly , I ’m not sure what Abrams could have done : Rejiggering Khan ’s origin would have pissed off the Trek fans , because the event that split up the two universes only happened in 2233 , so everything before that should be exactly the same . On the other hand , pretending there were “ Eugenics Wars ” in the ‘ ninety for a movie released in 2013 in ludicrous . There ’s not a good result here . Unless , of course , you consider not using Khan at all and avoiding the integral issue and then not make over Wrath of Khan and doing something original to be a good result , which I do .

With the failure of The Lone Ranger to get hold an interview , get yet another fork in the dead horse of the genre , do you feel there is any Leslie Townes Hope , at all , of wonder bringing any of their beloved westerly Heron to the big covert ? This is the studio that ’s uncoerced to roll the dice on a Guardians of The Galaxy film . Does Marvel have the moxy to bring out a Western , too ? If so , which of their classic cowboy deserves first shoot at the ash grey screen ?
P.S. My vote goes to The Ringo Kid .
I would n’t hold your breath . First of all , very few Westerns get made nowadays , and even fewer do well . The Westerns that are corner government agency succeeder are n’t PG-13 action fests , like The Lone Ranger or Jonah Hex , but R - place , violent drama with all - star casts , like 3:10 to Yuma , Tombstone and Unforgiven .
Marvel would be way out of its pilothouse seek to release one of its Western comic strip into a motion-picture show like Unforgiven , and I doubt it would spend its time and resourcefulness on something this unsettled when it has many , many other characters that are safer bet ( I ’d say even GotG is a safe bet than a Western , lamentable ) .
My balloting , if they did do one , which they wo n’t ? The Rawhide Kid . I would n’t desire a Western with a bunch of insinuation and merry panic jokes , but a regular Western where the protagonist just happens to be gay could be cool .

I was just reckon about zombies again and here ’s my question :
If say 50 % of America is morbidly weighty , what does that translate to when they become zombie spirit ? Is this a thinning of the herd where all the zombie spirit are made up of the fat people that could n’t get away along with some unlucky healthy the great unwashed ? An extra question , as an in shape person , Is it well-off or harder to get away from a rich zombi ?
Why would it be harder ? Because the fat zombies are hungrier than regular zombies ?
It is sluttish to get away from a productive zombie , for a few reasons : 1 ) they ’re freehanded and thus do n’t maneuver quite as well , 2 ) they ca n’t get into mean spot , and 3 ) their added system of weights slow down them down a little ( not in a “ I need to beguile my breathing space ” way , since they ’re animated by the zombie virus , just in a “ my limb are super - heavy ” way of life ) .
But most zombies do n’t get you because they ’re physically superior to you , they get you because there ’s one of you and hundreds of them . Sure , if you ’re in shape and there are 50 fat zombi chasing you , you could briskly jog and stay in front of them for minute . But eventually you ’ll get tired and they ’ll catch up , or more zombies will pop up in front of you .
On the positive side , when the outbreak is first happening , the fatty people will all be feed as we ’ll be too out if physique to run / escape / climb step , etc . , and you in - shape citizenry can use that wanted sentence to get aside . So it ’ll be great for awhile . Until you have 50 million bitter , jealous , overweight zombie shambling after you .
