crepuscule - haters , stand aside . We ’ve been excited about 30 Days of Night director David Slade ’s vision for Eclipse from the beginning . In our sole audience , the director excuse balancing the lycanthrope - on - vampire massacre with romance , and exploring the physiology of Twilight ’s lamia .
We ’re all super excited for your take on Eclipse . We think it might be pretty frightening .
I think it is , actually . I think we got the fearfulness . I we get the latent hostility . We certainly obtain the legal action . And I think we have the Romance language and the passion too . I mean we wangle to do it all . It was n’t sluttish , it was very , very toughened . It was very tight too . It was somewhat wearing , but I think we got it . I ’ll leave it up to others to decide . But I palpate pretty good about it .

In New Moon , it was relatively action - free until the final Volturi fit , and a few werewolf scene but it was pretty light on the roue . And in Twilight , the with child finale dance studio apartment conflict was pretty brutal and fairly bloody with Bella . Is Eclipse run low to follow the same form or will there be more bloodshed in this depiction ?
We have a lot more of that sort of stuff and nonsense . We have about six beheading . But the lamia do n’t leech . They do n’t have any liquid in their bodies , I ’m afraid . There ’s three shots of blood in the full movie and one of them is — oh , I ca n’t really tell you that actually . Two of them are ego bring down . But we do smash them to piece of music and seize with teeth them , fall apart them and nail them to pieces and plug their heads off . Which is great fun to do . in reality the mythology of the vampire was a lot of playfulness . We were exercise with the guys from Image Engine , who , when I met them , were end up District 9 . And I was really lucky to be one of the first citizenry to see the particular effects shots from District 9 . I was just like , “ Wow , fuck me ! ” Excuse me , “ put off me . ”
One of the first thing we did was sit down and act out the physiology . We roll in the hay they scintillate , we know they kind of crack if you hit them really severely , but they heal really fast . So we decided to figure out the physiology , and we had a lot of fun doing that . We had human cross discussion section made . And we figured out that they were watch glass - line structures so they could scintillate . Then which layer of fatness would do it . So when we hit them severely enough they would snap or infract . We figured they were kind of carbon form underneath . All of their bone structure and muscular tissue was quartz line when form . That was a mountain of fun to do . But yeah we ended up smashing them to pieces quite a bit . The chronicle dictates that we had to violate them and smash them so we had to figure out how to do that in a really convincing agency . The main matter for me was to execute it in a convincing way . And make the personal effects as tangible as potential in as much time as we had to do it . We need to take the realism up a little more , so you could focus on the story and not spend prison term looking at the effects .

So how do wolfman and lamia in your film fight each other ? We ’ve seen a short in the previous film but you really have the brunt of the battle scenes .
There was n’t really much interaction in the previous films . The wolf — what I did , I charter them to being more like wolf . I think before they were a scrap more humanise , I took back to being very big wolves . I made them and their motion very lupine . I tried not to caricature them . I stress to make them as literal as anything else . They look like dogs . They are very canine , their hands are their mouth , they do everything with their sassing . They bite , and they burn off workforce . Well they sure as shooting seize with teeth off one hand that you see , they do all sorts of nasty things to people . They just rip things asunder .
We ’ve got five bountiful action thing , but again that was n’t something I bring in that was the news report . I executed it , but it ’s from Eclipse , the leger . It ’s a hugely boneheaded novel , the bad part was actually slimming it down into a screenplay .

From the view I ’ve escort , it seems like the characters have really evolve , and if that ’s true we ’re really unrestrained to see the changes . I also understand somewhere that Robert Pattinson had a different take on Edward ’s character , than you did , primitively . I ’m funny what you imagine had exchange for these characters and Edward for Eclipse ?
Specifically about Edward , “ I think the first thing I said to him was , “ I want to change everything about you . ” But I was really talk about his headspace and where he came from in New Moon . I want to remind him that he was a lamia , that he was a carnivore . What we never see in these movies , or hear about too much , was that they go off and take down bear and mickle lions to eat . They do n’t kill people , but they exhaust .
I remember having a give-and-take with Elizabeth Reaser , who plays Esme , the mother . And she said , “ I ’m the Mom , am I adequate to of agitate ? ” And I said , “ For god ’s sake you kill mountain social lion ! ” [ Laughs ] . And she responded , “ oh yeah , I do . ” So it was that form of bit . Also with Jackson Rathbone , who plays Jasper , his theatrical role through the Book , he expire to schoolhouse as test . It ’s kind of like his 12 - dance step political platform to stop from killing hoi polloi . To be around hoi polloi and not kill them is his mental test , which is one of the reasons he goes to school . That ’s what we talked about .

With Edward , he ’s a carnivore . We want to make him as dangerous as possible , but talk about it in such unvarnished term , you talk about it scene by scene . You figure out ways of bringing out that aggressive side of him , the underlie boiling . All the thing that make you more belligerent . I thought he ’d been sort of passive to fate , in this film you see a much kind of strong Edward who is very much the attacker . The news report bow drive it . In the third act he becomes a killer . He becomes scary , he has to toss off . I did n’t want that to just come along out of nowhere . I did n’t want just lenient , sonant , soft KILLER ! That would just jar [ the audience ] . Even though there are some very romantic conniption and the tête - à - tête between these two men , even that tantrum , you ’ll see he ’s very strong-growing .
There ’s a tantrum where Edward and Jacob almost have a engagement right in front of Bella ’s and house and there a quite a little of talking pop off on between me and Taylor and Rob to convince them to be really fast-growing . [ I pronounce ] “ You grab him here , ” [ actor response was ] “ the hell he will , he never disturb me ! ” And I say yes he does , and that ’s exactly why . And it had nothing to do with my particular take , it was all story - driven . At the closing you go to battle , you fight , you kill . I require to bring that back , just under the control surface . So when it comes out it ’s not a Brobdingnagian jump , it ’s a raw extension .
Are you a little lamentable that you do n’t get to film the birthing vista , or a little grateful ?

[ Laughs ] I ’m sure Bill Condon will do just fine with that .
But what about in person just as a conductor ?
I ’m not a gore - heel . I really appreciate gory film . It ’s mirthful because when we did 30 Days of Night we did a beheading setting and it was exceptionally realistic , and I ’m really a narration - driven person . I get really anal retentive about how to make the camera tell the story . So when it came to that shot in 30 years of Night I had it be completely and utterly realistic , the decapitation . We designed a path to shoot the shot so that it would seem real , and all the blood drain out of the head that it would get pallid . And when we finish up the shot and when I looked at it I though , aw that search awful . That reckon horrible . [ Laughs ] But the journey consume you to the point where that can be done . It was done to get to a point . Similarly with Hard Candy . I did n’t dislike Patrick Wilson ’s graphic symbol until I was in the redaction way . But yes I ’m a big fan of horror movies . But I prefer visceral to viscous , let ’s just say that .

The Twilight Saga : Eclipse will be in theaters June 30th .
