“ Fire in the Hole ” brings the gang , which now includes pig and former skeptic Amanda Fisher , face to face with a new adversary : the Michigan militia . But of course , one particularly tenacious Deadite come out to dally , too . And a character we were reasonably bloody trusted would return does exactly that .

In need of weapon system onward of their imminent getting even to Ash ’s stalk cabin , the group ventures into the boondocks in hunt of Lem and his reserves buddies . They prove not very difficult to situate — thanks to the shredded corps and barely - alive body wailing in infliction along the way . As we get a line last week , Lem was unable to escape a sealed evil hurricane that fall out him from the dining compartment , and he ’s been picking off his comrades since he derive back . These suspicious survivalist would n’t be too stoke on a gang of random visitor anyway — and the post is made way worse when they resolve that Ash and fellowship are responsible for for Lem ’s precondition .
Kelly and Pablo oversee to endure into the nearby wilderness , with camouflaged goons in red-hot avocation . Though Kelly is more sure-footed in her fighting accomplishment than Pablo ( who ’s wondering what his signature tune weapon should be … uh , rusty chain ? ) , they make a good squad — and they ’re able to turn the tables on the intemperately armed rednecks with gore - gushing flair … especially when one of those rednecks twist out to be a Deadite . Ash and Amanda , meanwhile , are handcuff together and tossed into a net of clandestine storage elbow room , where Deadite Lem lurch in furious pursuit . The confrontation builds to a stunningly fiery saltation of propane , highway flares , and one well - point pick ax , but the most memorable part of these scenes is Ash ’s unremitting flirting with Amanda , aka “ Babycakes . ” And finally , after really get wind him in action , she belong from mental rejection that he ’s hitting on her in a time of crisis ( “ There ’s no unsound time ! I ’m old - school , babe ! ” ) to actually kind of fall for the guy .
But that romantic Muriel Spark will have to wait for a while to catch fervor . After the quartette is reunited and the militia stand down , agreeing at last that “ In this war , everybody ’s on the same side , ” Ash — who ’s total to care an abominable lot about his ragtag posse — allows himself a rare solemn bit . “ Good job staying alert , ” he tells the group . “ Keep it up . ” The group thinks they ’re maneuver together to the cabin to give up some serious Deadite ass , but when they turn around , Ash is gone like the wind — clearly having decided he did n’t desire any more of his love 1 to be killed fighting his battles . Since none of them know exactly where the cabin is , it ’ll take some work peck up his trail .
Elsewhere , we see Ruby rise from a charred pile of woods at the brujo ’s farm . So Ruby is n’t exactly human , but she ’s not a Deadite , either . What ’s her deal ? We still do n’t have it away exactly who / what she is , and why she wants the book so bad , but she ’s able to hold death to keep going after it . When she gets to her motorcar , she realizes Ash ’s hired man is gone … but her topnotch special tongue , which we glimpse way earlier in the season at Kelly ’s household , is still in its boxing glove - compartment hiding post . She speeds forth . Can a face-off at the cabin be far off ?
Speaking of the cabin , Ash is going to have at least one member of the Deadite welcome commission await his arrival : his paw , which we see skitter through the forest to the cabin ’s front door in the episode ’s final shot . YES !
