On August 24th , an external squad of astronomers discovered what they referred to as “ an instant cosmic classic ” — the bright , closest , and youngest supernova we ’ve detected in decennium . In fact , the supernova , dubbed PTF11kly , has now reached crest brightness , making it bright enough to sight with a pair of binoculars .

The supernova is located in the pinwheel wandflower in the constellation Ursa Major — better known as the handsome dipper , and the easiest way to detect it is to take the last two mavin in the hold of the fully grown butterball , shape an equilateral Triangulum head north , and bang you ’ll find the pinwheel galaxy .
According to NPR , the beneficial time to see the exploding star will be just after sunset , before the rising synodic month wash out the nighttime sky with calorie-free contamination .

Whilst it looks more or less like just another bright virtuoso , unlike its companion this supernova will soon fade away , and after a few 24-hour interval it will only be visible with larger scope .
For many masses it could be a once in a life chance to see a supernova of this kind flower and then fade before their eyes ; we may not see another one like it for another forty , or perhaps over a hundred , years !
The supernova will start blow over over the next few days , but should remain visible as the moon ’s luminosity wanes with it — so if you do n’t catch PTF11kly tonight , be trusted to get a skilful aspect at some point in the next few days !
